WHAT IS A SUPER AGER?

We all know that there are no guarantees in life. Just making it this long should make us all SUPER AGERS. But, what about the next 10, 20 or even 30 years. As long as we are kicking, don't we want to be doing the highest kicks we can?


Most advice on how to become a Super Ager comes down to a few simple rules.


  1. Be Social - Develop strong, positive relationships. I've said it before, but get rid of toxic relationships. Spend more time with people who make you smile.

  2. Eat Heathy - "If it came from a plant, eat it: if it was made in a plant, don't." That is a famous quote from Michael Pollan and we would all do well to follow his advice. Following a Mediterranean Diet that includes nuts, beans and legumes, olive oil, vegetables, whole grains, and fish may even slow the aging process.

  3. Exercise your Brain - We've all heard that crossword puzzles are good. Try learning a new language. Learn to drive using a map, instead of your phone. Memorize a poem. But, mostly, keep learning and growing.

  4. Avoid Toxic Air - Air Pollution is a known cause of Heart Disease and Dementia. Indoor air quality is often more problematic because it is where you spend 80% of your time. So, open your windows and doors, invest in an air purifier and monitor the air you breathe.

  5. Keep Moving - Walk, run, go to a class, and keep moving. If you don't move it, you WILL loose it.


It seems simple, but can be so difficult to follow. Try choosing just one rule at a time, incorporate it into your life and then add another. If you fail, just try try again. - Jan
